Casino Dealers,

The new casino under construction at Westmoreland Mall will have a new set of dealers when it is officially opened. When visitors go into the casino, there is a high chance that you will come across dealers trained by WCCC (Westmoreland County Community College).

There is a letter of approval from the College trustees detailing the opportunity to offer instructional courses for casino dealers in collaboration with the company.

The casino will measure 100,000-square-foot, and it will be stationed at the Hempfield mall. The space was previously occupied by a departmental store.

This is not the first time WCCC has offered to carry out such training. It had previously provided similar training in its Youngwood-area campus. The new A departmental store previously occupied the space will involve 48 hours training in carnival games, as well as 96 hours in blackjack.

According to David Pistner, WCCC vice president, prospective dealers must complete both courses successfully before applying for the casino job. He further stressed that the training will help bolster the chances of working not just in Hempfield but as well as other casinos.

“Instructors will be adjuncts of the college but will be referred to us by the casino,” he said. “We would be looking to start training about 120 (dealer) candidates.” Initial classes are expected to begin in late winter or early spring.

Future Plans

According to WCCC President Tuesday Stanley, As the program continues to develop, the goal will be to train more dealers annually. The target is to train as much as 50 extra dealers yearly.

“The casino operators will help us offset the cost of the training and any administrative costs associated with carrying this out,” Stanley said.

Going forward, the casino will provide the equipment needed for the training. What’s more, the casino will pay the college an annual fee of $20,000 to cover staff expenses as well as a one-time payment of $15,000. The casino will also help with the recruitment process for students. The agreement is subject to approval by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board andof  annual review by the college and casino.
