Oklahoma’s River Spirit Casino Shutdown Following Bomb Threat
Oklahoma’s River Spirit Casino and Resort had to evacuate its building and shut its door for the weekend following a bomb threat. This lead to a comprehensive search in the resort for any explosive device(s). Nothing was found, and the resort was opened at the start of the week.
The closure took place in the early hours of Saturday after a person called to inform management that there was a bomb in of the casino’s bathroom. Guests and employees were quickly evacuated from the venue within minutes of the call.
The River Spirit Casino and Resort boasts of 3000 slots machines, close to 500 hotel rooms, and a couple of dozen gaming tables.
A spokesperson for the casino said, “We are taking the threat seriously. We are working with the Jenks Police Department as this is an ongoing investigation.”
“Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Tribal Police worked with the River Spirit Casino Resort manager on duty and General Manager Jerry Floyd to evacuate and ensure the safety of the casino patrons,” Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police Chief Robert Hawkins said in a statement
Another Closure of River Spirit Casino
This weekend’s evacuation is not the first time River Spirit Casino has had to shut its doors this year. Flooding of the Arkansas River led to the closure of the casino in May and June.
Parking lots and underground vaults were submerged in water as well as parts of the garage. The air inside the building had to be treated following the destruction caused by the flood.
Parts of the resort, such as gaming floors, restaurants, and the hotel itself were unaffected.
Despite the evacuations, River Spirit still remains one of the most visited casinos in Oklahoma. In fact, it was listed as the most requested destination in Oklahoma for passengers using Uber for ride services in 2019.
