Mayor Plans To Demolish Former Trump Casino

Demolish, Bulldozer, Tearing, Construction, Industry, Demolish Former Trump Casino

Atlantic City’s mayor has used every possible opportunity to air his distaste for P.O.T.U.S Donald Trump. Mayor Marty Small is taking his displeasure a step further by unveiling plans to demolish the former Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino.

In a speech to business execs, Mayor Marty Small said that demolishing the building is once owned by President Trump is part of his main objectives for 2020.

Billionaire Carl Icahn currently owns the vacant casino. The billionaire assumed ownership of the former casino in 2016.

Trump has cut most of his relationships with Atlantic City and he even went as far as to have his name removed from specific part of the city. He even sued to have his name removed from the Plaza building in 2014 after it closed down. The president has taken several steps to ensure his ties with the city is completely extinguished.

Other casino properties owned by Trump in the state have since been rebranded. Trump Marina is now Golden Nugget, and Trump Taj Mahal is Hard Rock.

Demolition Strategy

Carl Icahn considered tearing down the building since 2017; however he has been unable to receive the needed demolition permit. His effort to obtain funding from the state agency have proved abortive until recently.

“My administration’s goal is to demolish Trump Plaza,” Small Said. “That’s not accepted in any other city but Atlantic City. It’s an embarrassment; it’s a blight on our skyline and the biggest eyesore in town.”

Atlantic City is one of the states in the US that experienced a revival in its economy, thanks to the approval of online gambling in the state. Last year saw the introduction of Sports betting, and that has also pushed the entire gaming industry in the right direction.
