West Virginia Lottery Officials Are Working On Mobile Casino Regulations
West Virginia is vying to become the next state in the US that will provide internet-based casino gaming. Should it achieve this landmark, it will become the fourth state in the country to do so.
Recently, officials from the state’s lottery paid a visit to their Pennsylvania counterparts to learn from them, and understand the platform employed for sports betting and online casino gaming.
As things stand, there are five casinos in the state. Out of the five, three offer retail sportsbook, while the others offer sports betting via a mobile app.
“The initial build-out of the iGaming system–they can almost take the new games, which will come in a suite and they can lay that right on top of a sports wagering-type of platform,” West Virginia Lottery Director John Myers said. “It’s not going to be as labor intensive or to take as long to get out as sports wagering.”
Joining The Party
In March, the West Virginia Lottery Interactive Wagering Act was signed into law. The law allows for licenses to four casinos in the state as well as the casino at the Greenbrier resort.
Casinos that want to offer online gaming services are required to apply with the gaming board. The application fee is $250,000 for a five-year license. The renewal of the license at the end of the five years will cost $100,000.
The law states that mobile casinos can offer both table games as well as slots. The state will allow both sports betting and online casino gaming within its shores.
