MGM Resorts Pledges Employee Emergency Fund

Over time, MGM Resorts has been tagged as the bad boy in the casino industry. The popular brand has been on the news following its 2020 Plan that included an increase in resort fees as well as several layoffs. But in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the operator is proving that it is not a bad boy after all.

MGM Resorts has pressed pause on its US operations following the directives of the Federal Government. Nevertheless, the resort is working hard to help during the coronavirus crisis. 

MGM announced that it is offering $1 million to the MGM Resorts Emergency Relief Fund. The fund provides workers and their immediate families “with short-term relief in making payments or to meet obligations during unexpected hardships and emergencies.”

The operator has shown that during times of crisis, it can assist those in need any way they can. 

“As we confront extraordinary events and an unprecedented global pandemic crisis, we know that this is an extremely challenging and uncertain time for many of our employees, their families, friends, and neighbors, and we are committed to helping those in need,” said MGM Acting CEO Bill Hornbuckle.

The pledge is available to all 77,000 employees affected by the disease. 

Operation Feed The Nation 

MGM Resorts has casinos in various states in the country fully or temporarily closed. MGM has donated in each o the local food banks and pantries were their casinos are located. In all, MGM says its food donations will lead to 400,000 meals being served to those affected in the local communities. 

MGM has donated 251,000 meals in Las Vegas to the Three Square Food Bank. MGM announced an outreach called Focused on What Matters. The awareness will focus on donating five million meals by 2025
