Guilty As Charged
Ex-Casino Employee Sentenced To Jail
An Alabama federal judge has sentenced a former Wind Creek Montgomery Casino employee to three years in prison for stealing $192,000.
Alabama US District Court Judge Andrew Brasher was in no happy mood when he sentenced ex-Wind Creek casino employee Jory Dumas.
“He [Dumas] organized it in such a way he would never be on video with money or the keys,” Brasher was quoted. “I think he’s greedy and arrogant.”
The Judge mentioned that Dumas was the brains behind the operation, and tagged him the ringleader in the theft. During the sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant where is the missing cash stolen from the tribal gaming property.
Dumas and three other people allegedly stole around $192,800 from Wind Creek Casino back in August 2018.
Dumas pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. During the trial, the Judge said, “I’ve never seen someone lie so poorly as you.”
Brasher sentenced Dumas to 3 years in prison for employee theft and conspiracy.
After serving his prison term, Dumas will be on a supervised release for another three years. Brasher insisted that Dumas, along with other accomplices, must repay the missing money to the casino.
The Ringer Leader
Dumas admitted that he kept a part of the stolen money, which he later spent. He also admitted that he gave a part of the money to another defendant, Courtney Staton.
In the casino theft, prosecutors identified Dumans as the ringleader of the crime.
“I’m not a bad person, I just made a terrible decision. I put my family in this situation,” Dumas was quoted by the newspaper. “I apologize for my actions. … I wish I had something to bargain with, but I don’t.”
The other defendants are Courtney Staton, Tomika Thomas and Timothy Pettiway.
