MGM Resorts Unveils Solar Project Solar Project Will Power 13 Casinos in Vegas
Last Week, MGM Resorts International put on its 100-megawatt solar park. The Mega project is the largest developed by in the hospitality market.
The project sits across 640 acres just off Las Vegas. It will power the operator’s casino empire in Vegas. This includes the 36,000 hotel rooms and gaming floors. The Mega Solar Array project boasts off 323,000 solar panels. The panel are capable of supplying 90 percent of daytime energy needs of MGMs 13 Strip casino.
The site is stationed at the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone. The zone is one of the several zones nationwide the Obama led administration put in place to encourage the use of solar energy.
Creating a difference
The launch of the solar project is a major milestone in MGM’s goal of reducing carbon emissions. The company hopes to reduce emissions by 45 percent per square foot all through 65 million feet in the next four years.

The project is in partnership with Invenergy, a sustainable energy company. Both MGM and Invenergy have been in partnership since 2016 after, MGM dissolved its partnership with state energy, Nevada Energy.
The MGM’s executive vice president and general counsel, John McManus, said the move is a positive one that would help the company reach its environmental goal by “decreasing the use of energy and aggressively pursuing renewable energy sources.”
“Our imperative is heightened by increasing customer demand for environmentally sustainable destinations,” he added.
