Massachusetts Gaming Commission Considering A Third Casino
Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking public opinion on whether to reopen the competition for a third casino license. Currently, the third and final casino license is reserved only for southeastern Massachusetts.
State gambling regulators are seeking public comment on this question and others as they weigh whether to reopen the competition for the state’s third and final casino license, which is reserved for southeastern Massachusetts.
The state gambling regulators asked for public opinion on their website. The window for the public comments will be opened from till March 16. In addition, there are specific questions left for experts to answer in regards to the economic impact of housing a new casino in the area.
Currently, southeastern Massachusetts houses Plainridge Park, a slots parlor as well as a racing track. Also, there are also two casinos operated by Twin River just across the Rhode Island state line.
An Ongoing Process
The state had previously considered applications for the last casino license of the state. During that time, it only had a single proposal. The process of awarding a $677 million casino at the Brockton Fairgrounds was making progress when the gaming commission pulled the plug on the deal, citing the potential cluster of casinos in the area.
However, Mass Gaming and Entertainment, the company behind the Brockton casino proposal, has repeatedly as the state to reconsider its decision to award the final license.
Currently, Massachusetts has two casino resorts: MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor.
