Casino Shutdown To Continue In The New Month
U.S. casino shutdown To Extend through April
By some accounts, the U.S. has not yet reached the estimated maximum number of cases of coronavirus contagion. President Trump, based on information he’s been given, doesn’t expect the peak to happen for another couple of weeks, and this has forced him to take additional measures to ensure federal health-related guidelines are maintained. As a result, these measures will remain in effect until the end of April, which is going to delay the ability of casinos and other businesses to get on the road to recovery.
In a bid to combat the spread of the coronavirus, there are specific measures implemented by the Government based on the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Some of these measures include; self-isolation, limited travel, social distancing, and so on.
All of these measures are to be implemented by all casinos. The impact of coronavirus will see the industry lose more than $1 billion in the period spanning from February to March. There is every chance that the industry will be on lockdown for another 30 days, and analysts predict it will be devastating fo the entire industry. There are even talks that some companies might file for bankruptcy sooner rather than later.
Casinos across the country have been forced to close their doors until the virus blows over. The gambling venues and casinos in the country have followed the directives of their respective states and have close up shops. On the other hand,
Tribal gaming venues are not required to follow state orders since they are under federal jurisdiction. But in the limelight of recent happenings, they are required to follow state directives. Out of the 989 commercial and tribal casinos in the U.S., more than 980 have closed their doors.
New Lockdown Orders
Trump is expected to provide an update on the national crisis in the coming days. The new info will provide further information on how the lockdown will affect various states.
Many states have already closed down their casino till the first week of April. But it is likely that the date would be extended to at least the end of April.
There are already whispers that The U.S will completely shut off Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York from the rest of the country. However, Trump is delaying such decree, calling states to increase their efforts in Policing their borders.
Despite the doom and gloom caused by COVID-19, there is still some hope. Most casino operators have reserve funds that will see them through the coronavirus storm. There is also the $2 trillion stimulus package approved by the Federal Government to provide relief to all businesses within the country. The stimulus package will also offer some relief to individuals affected by the virus.
