Republican Senator Demands For Casino Closure

Seminole Hard Rock Casinos Still Open Despite Coronavirus

Hard Rock Casinos Still Open Despite Coronavirus

According to the American Gaming Association, the novel COVID-19 has led to the closure of more than 95% of commercial casino operations in America. In addition, several many tribal operators are also closing their doors, despite the economic impact on their communities.

However, the is a growing concern that one of the leading tribal operators in Florida is ignoring government warning, and it’s carrying out its business as usual.

As at early this week, all six of the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Hard Rock Casinos are still open despite close to 400 cases of coronavirus and six deaths registered with the aging population.

This is also despite the Seminole HQ closing its doors for a week for a deep cleaning session after an employee tested positive for the virus.

Nevertheless, the Seminoles say they have cut down their operations, called of parties, and concerts closed down poker rooms and unplugged more than half of their slots machine.

The tribe is also promoting social distancing, and making hand sanitizers available in common areas. They also insist that they are continuously disinfecting common surfaces on a regular basis.

Close up shop

State Rep. Jackie Toledo said the actions of the tribe is not enough.

“Schools are closed, bars are closed, but the casinos remain open,” she said. “In a casino, patrons have to touch screens, they touch money, they touch chips, and they touch tables. They are encouraging the spread of this virus.”

There is no reason in this war against the invisible enemy that the Seminole Hard Rock can’t keep its employees and patrons safe,” she added.

Toledo wants Governor Ron Desantis to step in, although there is really nothing legal the governor can do.
